"The old phrase "pray, pay and obey"
still hovers over the people as a summary of their duties. Preachers are like little
medieval rulers in their own domain"

"Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him,
and he with Me." --Revelation 3:20

Proverbs 3:5-6 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not depend on your own understanding;
in all your ways acknowledge Him, and HE will direct your steps."

Does God Talk To People?
Absolutely! God does speak to people today. Followers of Jesus say that they have a "personal relationship with the Lord." What does a relationship imply? That there is communication! God desires to speak to His people, but oftentimes we are not listening, or we are listening for only what we want to hear. Jesus said that His sheep would hear His voice (John 10:3,4,16).
For the follower of Jesus, the Lord may speak in a variety of ways. He will use the Bible (His Word) to speak about general things and also specific things we need to know. He will oftentimes use your spouse to speak to you. He can use Christian books, situations and events in your life, music, podcasts, and other input we receive from outside of our ourselves. He will also use the "still small voice" (
1 Kings 19:12,13) to speak a Word to you and me.
An important and vital point to remember is that the Lord will
NEVER speak a word to you or me which contradicts His Word given to us in Scripture. The Bible is our grid to filter all possible communication from God. Most of what He wants us to know is in the Bible anyway, but we can be quickly misled if we don't know the Bible.
Lastly, it is important to point out that without the Holy Spirit, a person is trying to listen to the Lord without all the equipment. It is like trying to hear a FM radio station on an AM dial or to pick up Satellite TV on your cable system. It simply doesn't work.
Without the Holy Spirit a person does not have the God-given capacity to hear Him. Fortunately, God desires us to have and use the Holy Spirit (Luke 11:13).
So does God desire to speak to you and me? Absolutely! He said to the prophet Jeremiah (and this is for us as well): "Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things which you do not know." (
Jeremiah 33:3).

In James 4:8 it is written that if I draw near to God, He will draw near to me. I've experienced that when I read the Bible and pray, God sends me help to live according to His will. He speaks to me clearly during the day. He doesn't just show me how I can do things better outwardly;   He also shows me the sin that dwells in my human nature, which makes life difficult for myself and for those around me. When I pray to Him in need over my sin, He gives me opportunities to overcome it, and Jesus gives me the strength to do so!
He wakes at night with thoughts for the next day, when my mind is clear. A clear mind is necessary sometimes for thoughts from God that are different than the normal.
To draw near to God, I need to be open and ready to be obedient to His will. I need to be near in order to hear. If I have a grudging attitude toward God's commandments, I will keep myself at a distance. "He who has an ear to hear, let him hear." This exhortation is repeated many times in the book of Revelation. If I hear, I receive nourishment for my spirit from God, and in that way I can also be of help to the others around me. This is truly a life that is pleasing to God.
In the end all thoughts, ideas and words must be approved by scripture.  To God the Glory.

This nation lacks Holy Spirit teaching!

Jesus said those who follow Me, will hear My voice

John 10:27   My sheep hear my voice,
and I know them, and they follow me.

God does speak very loud sometimes. If it is very important.
Or if we are resistant?

The Bible defines a prophet as an ordinary person who
reveals information from God that is otherwise unknown.
(Ezekiel 2 & 3, Jeremiah 29:19)

After hearing God.   Losing it is painful.
This the fear of God we need!

The Lord GOD does nothing, unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets (Amos 3:7)

A promise from God. If you meet the conditions - trusting in Him and not in yourself, and acknowledging His hand on your life - then you can be sure that He is guiding your steps. We know that God works all circumstances for good for those who love Him [Romans 8:28].      Yet, some live their entire Christian lives without ever hearing God speak. They know Him, and they know that He is directing their paths. They can survive trying times and come through with their faith intact, yet they never hear God's audible voice, or the inner voice of the Spirit.    But you don't have to settle for that.     Hearing God speak to you personally  is a wonderful faith-boosting, relationship-building experience.
And will be necessary for the work God has for you, in these last days.

A NEW SONG   Revelation 14-3-4     Start going to GOD!    Jesus gave us the Holy Spirit,   so WE CAN HEAR GOD.
The disciples did not go to "church" they went to God, using the Holy Spirit that Jesus gave them to replace the preacher!
