FASTING

The point of the fast is to combine it with a more intense, focused time of prayer that brings a greater communion with God, a greater empowerment of the Spirit,
and a greater earnestness in your soul."

Joel 2:12 |   Therefore also now, says the LORD, turn you to me with all your heart, and with
fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning.

All true born again saints are spirit let.  You pray for whoever God directs you to. You will also fast when God directs you. Ask God before each meal. He will direct you to eat or fast. Usually you will know who or what for.  Not always.

Don't forget that Jesus fasted and He taught on fasting.   Matthew 6:16-18    "And when you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, your fasting may not be seen by
others but by your Father who is in secret.   And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

Biblical fasting is the temporary complete abstinence of food for spiritual purposes.  I've often heard people say that you can fast from anything like choosing to go without TV or deserts or something else that you enjoy. However, in the Bible fasting was always a complete
abstinence from food. There is something else in the Bible called a Nazarite vow which involved abstinence from other things like alcohol.
A few things Biblical fasting is.
It is always associated with prayer
Ezra 8:23
It often is in response to hardship or grief
1 Samuel 31:13
It can be done as a group or individually
Acts 13:2/Matthew 4:2
It should have a spiritual purpose and never be done for show Matthew 6:16-18
It was done before making an important decision
Acts 14:23
Finally, a few benefits from fasting.
Physical hunger helps us see our greater spiritual need
It reminds us of our complete dependence upon God in both the physical and spiritual realm
It provides a simplicity in our daily routine that allows us to focus on prayer and meditation
It helps us to see how self centered we often are without even thinking about it
It teaches us not to be enslaved by our appetite
It reminds us of how Jesus suffered willingly for our sake

Fasting is not a way to earn God's favor by getting him to do something for us. Rather, the purpose is to produce a transformation in us--a clearer, more focused attention and dependence upon God.  Fasting is never to be a public display of spirituality--it is between you and God alone. In fact, Jesus specifically instructed us to let our fasting be done privately and in humility, else we forfeit the benefits.  New Testament believers are to practice fasting with a cheerful attitude.

Psalm 35:13   When they were sick-- I wore sackcloth; I afflicted myself with fasting; I prayed with head bowed on my chest.

In this world today, fasting with prayer will be required to survive, and to witness of God's love for others! You should not be consumed with your own battles with the devil?     Your love for others should rule your life!

Isaiah 58:6-7   "Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke?   Is it not to share your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover him, and not to hide
yourself from your own flesh?

Matthew 17:21
This kind goes not out but by prayer and fasting.

If you are under attack, say the name Of Jesus, over and over until it leaves.  Works in your dreams also.
James 4:7    "Therefore submit to God.
Resist the devil and he will flee from you."
THIS IS YOUR BATTLE!
RESIST, RESIST,  RESIST!
This is our entire spiritual  battle.
This was Jesus' battle with satan.
And is ours also every day every hour!

Isaiah 58:6 "Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke?

Ezra 8:21 Then I proclaimed a fast there, at the river, that we might humble ourselves before our God, to seek from him a safe journey for ourselves, our children, and all our goods.

Fasting combined with prayer, will overpower the control the demons have in another persons life.  If directed by God through the Holy Spirit. It is a spiritual battle directed by God. Fought by you, with the power of Jesus.
You must have God's love in your heart for others.   It is an act of love to God.
